Become a Fellow

Blue Engine is now accepting applications for our inaugural class of Fellows, a team of recent college graduates from all academic backgrounds who commit one year of service to accelerate academic achievement in high-need public high schools in New York City.

First Deadline—March 10th

Second Deadline—April 28th

After a three stage admissions process, twelve Fellows will be selected for terms of service that begin in early August of 2010.

STAGE ONE: Applicants are invited to submit an online application. The online application consists of basic questions about your background in addition to short essay questions and two references.

STAGE TWO: A limited number of applicants will be invited to participate in thirty minute phone interviews with Blue Engine staff. Phone interviews have been designed to help us understand to what extent your past experiences are well suited for the challenges and opportunities that await you as a Blue Engine Fellow.

STAGE THREE: The final stage of the selection process involves an in-person interview session in New York City. The half-day sessions will include group discussions, critical thinking exercises, a sample tutoring lesson (5-7 minutes) and interviews with Blue Engine staff. If you’re invited to the in-person interview, you’ll also need to bring an official copy of your college transcript. Guidance on how to prepare your 5-7 minute sample tutoring lesson will be provided in advance.
