Who We’re Looking For

Blue Engine recruits recent college graduates from all academic backgrounds to help accelerate academic achievement in high-need public high schools.

We seek individuals whose combination of past experiences—as students, leaders, and volunteers—have prepared them to excel under challenging circumstances and effect measurable change in the lives of young people.

Blue Engine Teaching Assistants must also meet specific requirements:

Academic Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree.  You must have received your bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by the first day of Blue Engine’s summer training institute in August.
  • 2.50 Minimum GPA (undergrad).  You must have a cumulative 2.50 GPA on a 4.00 scale from an accredited college or university at the time we receive your application.

Job Eligibility

  • If you have served half a year or one year with an AmeriCorps program (including NCCC or VISTA), or if you have never served with AmeriCorps, you are eligible to apply to become a Blue Engine Teaching Assistant.
  • If you have already served a year and a half or more with AmeriCorps, your AmeriCorps benefits may be affected – please contact us at admissions@blueengine.org.
  • Previous AmeriCorps experience is NOT a prerequisite to become a BETA.
  • US Citizenship or National / Permanent Resident Status.
  • BETAs must be cleared through background and security checks prior to beginning their year of service
