To apply to become a 2010 Blue Engine Fellow: Please review the components of the online portion of the application below. You’ll need to report basic background information including specific questions about academic benchmarks like SAT / ACT scores, GPA, and the names of your references, so make sure you have that information on hand before you begin.
Compose, proof, and finalize your resume and short essay questions in an alternate word processing program (like MS Word) and be prepared to upload those files directly.
The online application should take no more than 15 minutes once you have prepared your materials for submission. To prevent delays or errors in the processing of applications, we strongly recommend you submit at least 24 hours before the application deadline expires.

Short Essays

Essay #1. There are many opportunities for recent college graduates to engage in education-related service. What motivated you to apply to Blue Engine in particular?
Essay #2. The Blue Engine fellowship year will involve a series of difficult challenges. Describe two of those challenges and the steps you believe will be necessary to overcome them.
Essay #3. Now, a chance to go off-script. There’s a scene in American Beauty (1999), shot in slow-motion, where a white plastic bag appears to be dancing in the wind (click here to watch that scene)—a quiet, lyrical moment that balances out the heaviness of the film. Choose one tangible detail in the world that helps you stay balanced and explain why you chose it.
